Western Site Visits

NCDAC Secretary Dismukes traveled west to visit Avery-Mitchell and Mountain View Correctional Institutions and learn about recovery there after Hurricane Helene.

ACA Accreditation

Caswell, Randolph, Johnston, Neuse, Pamlico and the Center for Community Transitions were awarded full ACA accreditation on Jan. 11. Tyrell Prison Work Farm received reaccreditation.

First Week

NCDAC Secretary Dismukes hit the ground running in her first week, meeting with correctional teams working to support rehabilitation and reentry efforts.

Oath of Office

Secretary Leslie Dismukes took the Oath of Office Jan. 6, joining NC Governor Josh Stein's cabinet.

Mobile Mammograms

Anson Correctional Institution hosted a mobile mammogram unit Jan. 9-10 to provide breast cancer screenings for incarcerated women.

The Division of Community Supervision provides probation, parole and post-release supervision for more than 84,000 offenders.

The Division of Comprehensive Health Services provides full-spectrum, evidence-based medical care to all offenders in custody.

Support Services

The Division of Support Services oversees multiple, complex operations across agency facilities statewide.

Special Ops & Intelligence

SOIU directs operational procedures and the processing of intelligence that impacts the public, staff and offenders.

Education Services

Education Services provides and coordinates a wide range of training, vocational and learning opportunities for offenders in every facility.

Correction Enterprises is a self-supported agency that fuels the economy and trains offenders for returning to the community.

Secretary Leslie Dismukes has been sworn into office and joins Governor's Josh Stein's Cabinet. Said Governor Stein, "My cabinet secretaries are ready to hit the ground running to make North Carolina safer and stronger."

NCDAC Announces Language Access Plan to Assist LEP Offenders

The plan is designed to ensure meaningful access to services, programs, and activities for offenders, their families, and the public who speak Languages Other Than English (LOTE) or are Limited English Proficient (LEP).

NC Joint Reentry Council Shares "Reentry 2030 Progress Report"

The Report provides a scorecard of progress on objectives, strategies, and metrics established by the NC Joint Reentry Council, and provides recommendations for the General Assembly's 2025 session for actions to improve reentry.

Current Initiatives

ACA Accreditation

As part of its strategic plan, the NCDAC is pursuing American Correctional Association accreditation for all parts of the agency.

Air Conditioning Upgrades

This complex NCDAC project aims to design and install air conditioning at 40 state prisons that lack cooling systems, either partially or entirely, by 2026.

Hope University

Launched throughout the NC prison system, Hope University provides oﬀenders thousands of tablet-based academic, vocational, and self-improvement courses available to take at their own pace.

Reentry 2030

Reentry 2030 is a national initiative that aims to dramatically improve reentry success for people exiting prison & for those under community supervision.
