Education Services is charged with fulfilling all state and federal mandates of a traditional school system for youths committed to state juvenile facilities. Janet Dalton, a teacher at Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center, tries to reach even the most resistant learners by providing games and activities for her students to make the classroom enjoyable while the students learn. An avid math enthusiast, Dalton has volunteered on several occasions to assist other teachers. She keeps abreast with the newest teaching styles and research to find new ways to teach the concepts so that students will internalize the information.
Dalton has extended herself on many occasions to uplift and assist others in need. She took the initiative to enter five of her students in the Western Region Math Fair. Dalton coordinated with Appalachian State University and was able to get two judges to come down on a Saturday to allow the boys to present. One of the boys earned the opportunity to compete in the finals at the state level, and earned an Honorable Mention.
Dalton also spearheaded a donation drive to benefit Hurricane Matthew victims in Lumberton. Most schools in that area had flooded and were in dire need of supplies. She was able to gather the donations, and transport it to the Robeson County school district. She is currently coordinating a drive for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, in Texas.
