Accountability, efficiency and professionalism are often some of the sought-after characteristics that can be found in job descriptions for North Carolina state employees. However, passionate, strong and caring are the unwritten attributes that also are needed to serve in roles that help to keep the Old North State a great place to live, work, play and prosper.
As the largest state agency with more than 25,000 employees, the Department of Public Safety holds personnel to high standards. Whether working in the public eye or behind the scenes, thousands of employees work tirelessly to keep our residents and visitors safe. It’s why we say NCDPS employees have careers that matter! When recruiting for talent, managers look for individuals who are ready to make a difference in their communities and across the state.
Governor Cooper proclaimed May 5 – 11 State Employee Appreciation Week. Across the state, agencies will host events to express gratitude for the commitment of state employees.
The week also marks Correctional Employee Appreciation Week and Nurses Appreciation Week. The Division of Prisons is the largest agency within DPS employing not only correctional officers, but food service managers, drivers, facility maintenance members and numerous others who secure and monitor individuals within the 55 correctional institutions throughout the state. Nurses also work at those correctional facilities, as well as in youth development centers across the state.
State employees don’t require praise for what they do, but the recognition is appreciated. From correctional officers, to probation/parole officers, state troopers, juvenile justice professionals, emergency managers, National Guard troops, nurses, doctors, teachers, counselors and dozens of others, we salute you and applaud you for being dedicated public servants.
