Deputy Secretary George Pettigrew oversees the Division of Rehabilitation and Reentry. The division is comprised of three sections: Rehabilitative Services, Reentry Services, and Social Work Services.
Pettigrew began his career in 1992 as a probation officer in Kenansville. He served as an intensive probation officer and chief/probation parole officer before being named Justice Reinvestment Administrator in 2013.
As the Justice Reinvestment Administrator, Pettigrew oversaw several initiatives regarding the Justice Reinvestment Act. He also served as the liaison between DPS and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association regarding the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program. He was tasked with coordinating and facilitating the Reentry PPO participation in the DPS reentry initiative.
During his 30-year career, he has served on many statewide committees including the Revocation Task Force, and Risk Needs Assessment Committee.
Pettigrew is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s in criminal justice and the Department of Public Safety’s Correctional Leadership Development Program.
