Are you or a loved one a victim of crime in North Carolina?

The NC Department of Public Safety - Office of Victim Services manages four programs, available to victims and/or their family members of crimes that occurred in North Carolina.

Our staff is available to assist with finding the appropriate programs and services to help you regain yourself, receive financial compensation, protect yourself and your family, and move beyond the stigma of being victimized.

These four programs and other tools are here to lessen the impact of crimes against you.

All services provided by the DPS Office of Victim Services are free and confidential.

The Office of Victim Services offers 4 Programs for Victims.

This program reimburses victims and/or family members who suffer medical expenses and lost wages.

This program pays for the cost of forensic medical examinations performed by SANE-certified healthcare providers.

This 24-hour automated criminal justice information-sharing system notifies victims of an offender's status.

This program helps crime victims and their families after their offender(s) are in custody or under DPS supervision.

Funds can help reimburse:

  • Medical expenses
  • Lost wages 
  • Funerals 
  • Trauma counseling
  • Rehabilitation
  • Medically related property
  • Other remedial treatment for victim care

To Receive Assistance: 

  1. Complete the application. Get it notarized and return by mail. Be sure to include itemized medical bills and/or funeral expenses and a copy of the law enforcement report.
  2. Payment for the medical expenses due to injuries from a crime are eligible for payment for one year from the crime date.

Note: Maxium allowable reimbursement is two-thirds of amount charged by medical provider.
