Mike Daniska is a 17-year veteran of state government. He most recently led the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning at the NC Department of Public Safety.
As Chief of Staff, Daniska oversees areas of communications, legislative affairs, internal audit, strategy and innovation, professional standards, internal affairs & intelligence operations, and Partnership, Engagement & Inclusion.
Daniska graduated from East Carolina University in 2000 earning his Bachelor’s in Political Science and in 2007 earned his Master’s in Public Administration. In 2005 he began his career working for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Management, in the Public Assistance Branch. In 2006, he moved into the Division’s Homeland Security Branch holding several positions starting as a grants manager and then planning unit manager.
In 2012, he served as Deputy Chief for the Planning and Homeland Security Branch. Then in 2014 Daniska became Assistant Director of the Planning and Homeland Security Section. In this position, he provided oversight and direction to the 5 branches responsible for emergency response planning for man-made threats, natural hazards, strategic planning, threat and hazard identification risk assessments, critical infrastructure protection and administration of federal grants.
He has staffed several task forces over the years, including the North Carolina Broadband Task Force, the North Carolina Task Force for Safer Schools as well as served as a member on the
Interagency Coordinating Council on Homelessness, Governor’s Advisory Council for Hispanic and Latino Affairs and as a Commissioner on the Emergency Management Accreditation Program. He is credentialed as a Certified Public Manager.
