The State Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver and/or vehicle that fatally struck and killed a 41-year old Spring Lake man as he walked along a Harnett County Road during the early morning hours of Monday, July 4.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Monday, July 4, 2016, the State Highway Patrol received a call from the Harnett County Sheriff’s Department reference the discovery of a deceased male lying in the roadway on Sandfer Road just south of the city limits of Lillington.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered the body of James Robert Knox II, 41, of 285 Valley Road, Spring Lake, lying in the roadway. Investigators were able to determine that earlier that morning, Knox and a female acquaintance were at the C&G Country Club located on US 401when they left the establishment with a friend who offered a ride. According to the female acquaintance and friend, an argument occurred between the female acquaintance and Knox. Per the female acquaintance and friend, Knox got out the vehicle on Raynor McLamb Road and decided walk to the remainder of the way. The female acquaintance and friend continued on to the residence. A short time later the body of Knox was discovered by a passing motorist.
