After 28 years of service, Colonel Marc D. Axelberg retires from the United States Army

The North Carolina National Guard celebrated the retirement of Colonel Marc D. Axelberg here, on June 12.

"It has been an honor to wear this uniform and to serve our great nation," said Axelberg.

Axelberg was a 1987 Distinguished Military Graduate from North Georgia College, Dahlonega, Ga. and has served on active duty more than 28 years. "Axe," as his friends call him, served as an infantry company commander in the 10th Mountain Division, battalion commander at Fort Benning, Ga. and various other demanding staff positions throughout his career. He has deployed overseas numerous times to include: Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope, Bosnia-SFOR, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He retires as the NCNG Senior Army Advisor to the adjutant general, assigned to Division East, 1st Army at NCNG Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh.

"The North Carolina National Guard is an absolutely professional force with focused leaders and hardworking soldiers and airmen," said Axelberg.

Axelberg currently resides in Raleigh with his wife Brett.
