North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement special agents arrested a man this morning on alcohol and weapon violations following an early Sunday morning raid at an illegal nightclub in Bladenboro.
ALE agents and deputies from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office raided The Honey Hole, 88 Spivey and Currie Drive, Bladenboro, after receiving numerous citizen complaints.
ALE charged Michael Spivey, 38, of Bladenboro, with possession of a firearm by felon (a felony), maintaining a building for using controlled substances, possessing for sale alcoholic beverages without the applicable permits from the Alcoholic Beverage Commission and possession of non-tax paid liquor. He was taken to the Bladen County Jail.
Agents also charged Latonya V. McCutchen, 40, of Bladenboro, with selling alcoholic beverages without obtaining the applicable ABC permit and possessing non-tax paid alcoholic beverages.
When agents and deputies arrived at The Honey Hole just before 2:30 a.m. to execute the search warrant, about 100 people were present. Agents confiscated two firearms, a large amount of alcoholic beverages, non-tax paid liquor (moonshine), marijuana, prescription pills, cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
“This was a great example of agencies working together to make the community a safer place,” said Sheriff James A. McVicker. “I appreciate the interagency cooperation with all of our law enforcement partners.”
The State Highway Patrol and the Bladen County Fire Marshal’s Office also participated in the operation.
“One of the highest priorities of ALE is addressing illegal businesses that operate to the detriment of communities,” said ALE Special Agent in Charge Jason Locklear. “Operations that sell alcoholic beverages illegally frequently attract illegal drug use, violence and other problems. This was certainly true in this case.”
