On Friday, October 16, 2015 at 2:39 p.m. a SUV was traveling north on I-95. The operator of the SUV lost control near the 47 mm, traveled off the roadway to the left, and struck a tree within the median. The vehicle then overturned and came to rest facing south.
There were seven total occupants within the vehicle. Two adults, a two year old child, and a 17 year old were killed as a result of the collision. Three other juveniles within the vehicle were hurt and transported to Cape Fear Hospital.
