Inmate Dominique Worrell, 26, was found dead at Southern Correctional Institution this afternoon, the subject of an apparent suicide.
Officers found Worrell unresponsive, hanging in her cell just before 3 p.m. today. Prison medical staff and local EMS responded but were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead at 3:24 p.m.
Worrell was serving approximately 4-years for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony breaking and entering and larceny. She was convicted in Wake County. The Troy Police Department is conducting the law enforcement investigation of her death.
