The Department of Pubic Safety’s Office of Victim Services conducted the fifth of six regional training sessions today for DPS staff, Victim Witness legal assistants from district attorney offices and victim services program providers. The North Carolina Statewide Automated Victims Assistance Notification (NCSAVAN) administrator and staff presented comprehensive training focused on notifying victims of status changes of offenders.
About 70 participants attended the Greenville session and another 45 have registered for the Wilmington session on Thursday, June 25. The sessions were scheduled across the state within an hour of most jurisdictions. At the conclusion of the seminars, about 300 attendees will have completed training.
“DPS is concerned about the safety of our citizens,” said Karen Fairley, SAVAN program administrator. “NCSAVAN works to provide victims of crime with the best service possible and this training supports the process of victim notification.”
