While conducting rounds, a correctional captain found Justin Cauble (0759304) unresponsive in his cell around 10:30 Saturday night. Correctional staff initiated CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and called EMS. They also notified the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. Attempts to resuscitate the inmate were not successful and EMS pronounced Cauble deceased.
Preliminary indications are that the inmate may have overdosed on a drug. An internal investigation has been launched. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office will investigate.
Cauble, 31, was serving a 10 year sentence as a habitual felon. He was convicted in Buncombe County in 2011.
