Tony Taylor to lead Special Operations and Intelligence Section

The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice announced today that Tony Taylor has been appointed as director of the division’s Special Operations and Intelligence Section.

Tony TaylorThe section oversees special teams for the prison, probation and juvenile justice systems including criminal information, security risk group intelligence, drug testing, extradition, and related technology applications.  It also oversees a cadre of 30 DPS officers serving on various federal-state law enforcement task forces; and it operates the division's emergency command which is a part of the State Emergency Response Team system.

Taylor is leaving his position as deputy director of Community Corrections to assume his new post.  He is a 29-year corrections veteran who began his career in probation in 1987 as a court intake officer in Wake County.  He has also served as an intensive probation officer, chief probation officer and judicial district manager of probation and parole operations in Durham, Orange and Chatham counties.  He is a former member of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force.

Taylor is a graduate of Enloe High School in Raleigh and UNC Wilmington.  He completed the Correctional Leadership Development Program in 2004. He will be replacing Wendell Hargrave, who retired in September.
