The State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision on I-95 in Cumberland County near Godwin. Initial reports indicate that there is one death and one injury that may be storm related.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, two passenger vehicles were traveling south on I-95 near mile marker 67 when a tree fell across the roadway, striking both vehicles. The impact resulted in the death of a passenger in one of the vehicles as well as injuries to the driver. The driver was transported to Cape Fear Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured as a result of this incident. Both southbound lanes of I-95 are now open. The names of those involved are not being released until next of kin is notified.
