Troopers Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Collision Involving Pedestrian

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, the Wake County Sheriff’s Department received a call that a pedestrian had been struck near the address of 5818 Poole Road near Rock Drive.

When investigators arrived they located a deceased black male, 23 years of age, lying on the right shoulder in a ditch. Investigators believe that between 11:45 p.m. and 12 a.m., the pedestrian was walking on the right shoulder of Poole Road when he was struck by what is described to be a 2004 or 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer edition. The vehicle is described as being two-toned with the bottom portion being gold in color. Damage to the vehicle will be to the front right corner. After impact, the driver fled from the scene.

Investigators are seeking the public's assistance in providing any information that may lead to the location of the suspect driver and/or vehicle.

The public is being urged to call either the Highway Patrol's Communication Center at 919-733-3861 or the Raleigh Highway Patrol office at 919-733-4400 should they have any information.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.
