North Carolina's current sentencing law, the Structured Sentencing Act, eliminates parole for crimes committed on or after October 1, 1994. However, the NC Post Release Supervision and Parole Commission has the responsibility of paroling offenders who were sentenced under the previous sentencing guidelines.
The Commission issues media notifications when parole-eligible individuals are being investigated for parole or the Mutual Agreement Parole Program; when parole is granted and when an established parole date is changed.
