Kenneth Lassiter has been named director of the state prison system’s Central Region Office effective June 1. In his new position, Lassiter will oversee operations of 12 male prisons located in an area from the Triangle north to the Virginia border.
“Kenneth Lassiter has done an exceptional job throughout his career working in custody for the state prison system, including the management of Central Prison and the Central Prison Health Care complex” said Commissioner W. David Guice, who oversees the Division of Adult Correction. “Mr. Lassiter is also nationally recognized in the field of corrections and often represents the state regarding national correctional issues,” Guice added.
Lassiter is a 24 year career employee and has served as warden of Central Prison in Raleigh since November 2011. He has moved through the ranks serving as superintendent, assistant superintendent of custody and operations and other managerial positions in all custody levels. He began his career as a correctional officer in 1989 at Odom Correctional Institution in Northampton County.
Lassiter replaces George Solomon as central region director. Solomon was recently promoted to director of Prisons.
