The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Barney Owens as the new superintendent at Pamlico Correctional Institution in Bayboro.
Owens, 52, is a 24-year employee with the Department of Public Safety. He has spent the last 18 years at Pamlico CI after a promotion from Craven Correctional Institution to correctional lieutenant in 2000. He was promoted to captain in 2005, and then assistant superintendent of custody and operations in 2015.
Owens, a native of New Bern, has an associate degree in criminal justice from Craven Community College.
Pamlico CI houses approximately 550 male inmates in medium custody.
