The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Jeffery Daniels as the new superintendent at Wilkes Correctional Center in North Wilkesboro.
Daniels, 45, had been the Western Region Security Coordinator for the 18 facilities assigned to the region office in Valdese since January of 2015. He was responsible for security issues, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) case tracking, and assisting the region director and operations manager.
A veteran to state government, Daniels began his career at Broughton Hospital as a certified nursing assistant in 1992. In 1996, he transferred to the former Avery Correctional Center as a correctional officer until the unit closed in the fall of 1999. Daniels then moved to the newly-constructed Avery/Mitchell Correctional Institution and was promoted to sergeant (Dec. 1999), lieutenant (Oct. 2004) and captain (March 2010).
Daniels has more than 10 years of investigatory working experience in the roles as Special Affairs Lieutenant and Special Affairs Captain. He also served on the Prison Emergency Response Team.
Wilkes CC houses approximately 250 male inmates in minimum custody.
