The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Peter Buchholtz as the new Region Director for the South Central Region with an office in McCain.
Buchholtz, 53, had been the facility administrator at Morrison Correctional Institution since 2012 where he was responsible for the overall operations at the facility, including offender custody, facility security, food service, medical, maintenance, educational services and other programs.
In his new position, Buchholtz provides oversight to the region’s 12 correctional institutions/confinement in response to violation centers, which employ roughly 4,000 staff and can house more than 11,000 offenders.
A veteran employee to state government, Buchholtz began his career as a correctional K-9 officer at the South Central Area Office in 1992.
Over the years, he also worked as a sergeant at the former Robeson Correctional Center, a unit manager in the maximum control housing unit at Scotland Correctional Institution, and assistant superintendent for custody and operations at Hoke Correctional Institution.
Buchholtz is a veteran of the United States Army. He holds a bachelor's degree from Campbell University in applied science, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He also holds an associate in applied science from Fayetteville Technical Community College in criminal justice, graduating with honors. He also completed the year-long Correctional Leadership Development Program and was certified as criminal justice instructor by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards Commission.
