A Hoke Correctional Institution offender who escaped six months ago was captured in Roanoke Rapids early this morning by Halifax County Sheriff’s deputies and Roanoke Rapids police officers.
Cul Priest Jones (#0214939) was found standing on a street corner. Jones, 45, fled on foot when officers approached and was apprehended. He was taken for medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.
He will be returned to the state prison system and charged with escape, as well as for other offenses he committed when he was on the lam. Jones was serving a sentence for first degree burglary when he escaped on Oct. 14, 2018. He had been admitted to prison on Sept. 30, 2014 and had been scheduled for release on Jan. 7, 2023.
