WHAT: N.C. Prison Reform Advisory Board Meeting
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, Sept. 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
WHERE: Governor’s Crime Commission, Room 100, 1201 Front St., Raleigh
ABOUT: Members of the Prison Reform Advisory Board – established by the Department of Public Safety to provide ongoing expert advice on best practices related to prison safety and security -- will hear reports on Wednesday regarding Health Services recruitment and hiring practices, the status of prison facilities conditions and maintenance, and a discussion regarding updates on legislation that affects Prisons. The Board members will then continue work toward drafting recommendations to present to DPS Secretary Erik A. Hooks later in 2019.
The Board predominantly consists of experts in the field of corrections, appointed by Hooks. The Board examines various topics including operations, training, staffing, technology, facility design and inmate work and program assignments.
