The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Harold Reep as the new warden of the Catawba Correctional Center in Newton.
Reep, 52, had been the warden at the Rutherford Correctional Center in Spindale since 2018.
“Warden Reep is an outstanding veteran leader with a wealth of correctional knowledge and exceptional organizational skills,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “He knows the business back and forth.”
In his new position, Reep is responsible for all operations at the Catawba Correctional Center, which is a male minimum custody facility that places an emphasis on programs aimed to improve offenders and prepare them for success when they reenter their communities.
The facility offers a work release job program, drug and alcohol treatment, narcotic and alcohol anonymous programs, high-school equivalency exams, and participation in a vocational program offered by Catawba Valley Community College.
A veteran employee to state government, Reep began his career as a correctional officer at Foothills Correctional Institution in 1995. He advanced through the ranks of sergeant, assistant unit manager, lieutenant, shift captain and special operations captain at that facility.
He was promoted to warden at Gaston Correctional Center in 2015 and moved to the warden position at Wilkes Correctional Center in 2017. He was named warden at the Rutherford Correctional Center in 2018.
Warden Reep is a graduate of Avery County High School.
