The Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice has named Loris Sutton as the new Prisons’ Central Region Director, based in Raleigh.

Sutton had been the Director of Operations since October 2019. She takes her new position on April 6.

In her new position, Sutton will provide oversight to the central region’s 11 facilities and, after a region realignment in May, to the five female facilities located across the state.

“Loris is an amazing, security-oriented correctional professional with a wealth of experience,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “She is a fact-based leader with excellent organizational skills who can be counted on to be cool and calm in a storm.”

A veteran employee to state government, Sutton began her career in 1993 as a correctional officer at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh.

Over her 26-year career, she has served in a variety of positions, including sergeant, probation/parole officer, program director, security specialist, chief of security, interim warden and assistant director for security and accountability.

Sutton is a graduate of Shaw University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a concentration in criminal justice. She is also a graduate of the DPS Correctional Leadership Development Program.
