Offender Edward S. Parker (#0311615) died Aug. 13, 2020 at Johnston Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell at 7:46 a.m. by staff who responded and worked to resuscitate the offender.
EMS was called, took over CPR from custody staff, and pronounced the offender dead. Local law enforcement was notified.
Parker, 46, was convicted of being a habitual felon (including a previous sex offense) in Buncombe County on Jan. 17, 2014, and was serving a 9-year, 9-month prison sentence. His projected release date had been Jan. 3, 2023.
