A Charlotte bar is without ABC permits following repeated incidents of violence which included assaults on law enforcement.
Since March 26, 2021, officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have responded to The Press Box Bar and Grille, 9609 Tryon Street Suite A in Charlotte, for two calls of shots fired and other incidents where patrons were injured.
Most recently, CMPD officers attempted to render first aid to a gunshot victim, but were obstructed by the crowd and an employee from The Press Box Bar and Grille.
Reports obtained from the officers described the bar crowd as “intoxicated” and “uncooperative”. So much so, that two CMPD officers were assaulted during the response, and one sustained injuries which required medical treatment.
ALE was contacted regarding the incidents of violence and conducted an investigation.
As a result, on Friday, April 16, 2021, special agents served The Press Box Bar and Grille with documentation which summarily suspended the business’ ABC permits.
“The Alcohol Law Enforcement Division will not tolerate any pattern of violence or lack of responsible supervision by any ABC permittee which jeopardizes the safety of patrons,” said Omar Qureshi, ALE Special Agent in Charge of the Harrisburg district.
