Updated: An offender who escaped from the Orange Correctional Center last night was caught this morning around 6:45 a.m. by the members of the western region Prison Emergency Response Team in Rutherford County, near Lake Lure. Offender Tyrell Dickey will be taken to a higher custody level facility and will be charged with felony escape. How he escaped is under investigation.
Correctional staff and law enforcement officers are searching for minimum custody offender Tyrell K. Dickey (#10665910) who escaped last night, May 16, from the Orange County Correctional Center in Hillsborough.
He was discovered missing from the prison shortly after 11 p.m.
Dickey, 44, is a Black male, five-foot 11-inches, with a stocky build. He has a pierced left ear and tattoos on both his right and left arms.
He was serving a seven-year sentence for felony breaking and entering. He was admitted to prison on Nov. 4, 2020 after being convicted in Rutherford County and was scheduled to be released on September 5, 2024.
