NCCIW Offender’s Death Ruled Suicide

The death of North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women offender Rachel Mobley (#0521820) in March was a suicide, according to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which issued its determination on Oct. 30.

The death of North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women offender Rachel Mobley (#0521820) in March was a suicide, according to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which issued its determination on Oct. 30.

Mobley, 46, suffered a medical condition and collapsed on March 29, 2023. Prison staff attempted life-saving measures and called EMS, which transported her to an outside medical facility where she was pronounced deceased.

Mobley was convicted July 1, 2019, in Pitt County, as a habitual offender and for larceny, credit card theft and obtaining property under false pretenses. She was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
