UPDATE: Minimum custody offender Thomas Swann was captured around 7:45 p.m. today, after less than eight hours at large, by a member of the Prison Emergency Response Team and his canine. After a law enforcement officer saw someone on foot along U.S. Route 1 south of Apex, Swann was found hiding under some plastic and was taken into custody without incident. He will be taken to high security prison and charged with escape.

Prison emergency response teams and local law enforcement are searching for offender Thomas Swann (#0590816) who left a work detail today in Apex.
Swann, 44, is a minimum custody offender serving a seven-year sentence at Sanford Correctional Center for habitual breaking and entering. He was scheduled for release on March 25, 2027.
Swann is a white male who stands 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds. He is bald with blue eyes and is originally from Cumberland County. He is heavily tattooed, most prominently on his arms and legs.
He was found to be missing from his job assignment on Schieffelin Road in Apex around noon today.
