State correctional and local law enforcement officers are seeking offender Ramone Alston (#1326788), who escaped Tuesday morning while being transported to a medical appointment in Hillsborough.
Alston, 30, is a Black male with family and friends in the area. He is serving a life sentence for a 2018 first degree murder conviction in Orange County. He was housed at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor.
He escaped from custody around 7 a.m. just after the transport vehicle arrived at UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus. He had freed himself from leg restraints and, still in handcuffs, jumped out and ran into adjacent woods.
