Officials with the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) have promoted Michael Gier to the position of Judicial District Manager (JDM) in Judicial District 28, effective December 23.

In his new position, he will oversee probation/parole officers and staff who supervise individuals in District 28 sentenced to probation, parole or post-release supervision

“With his more than 25 years of criminal justice experience, I know Michael Gier is well-prepared to be an excellent JDM,” said Tracy K. Lee, deputy secretary for Community Supervision. “It’s a challenging job, but I know he’s up to the task and will do a great job in this new role.”

Gier has more than two decades of experience with Community Supervision, all in District 28, where he started as a probation/parole officer. During that time, he has supervised high-risk sex offenders and served as an intensive case officer. In 2012, he was promoted to chief probation/parole officer.

He has earned several certifications, including NC Basic Law Enforcement Training, Intermediate Criminal Justice and Advanced Criminal Justice.

Gier is a graduate of Western Carolina University where he earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Before that, he earned an associate’s degree in law enforcement technology from A-B Technical Community College.
