Officials with the NC Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) have promoted Daniel Attaway to the position of Judicial District Manager (JDM) in Judicial District 17, effective March 3.
In his new position, Attaway will oversee Community Supervision operations in Rockingham, Stokes and Surry counties. The district includes 60 probation/parole officers and staff supervising more than 2,300 individuals sentenced to probation, parole or post-release supervision.
“Daniel Attaway has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to maintaining community safety and changing lives for the better,” said Leslie Cooley Dismukes, secretary for the Department of Adult Correction. “I am excited about his vision for this District and the emphasis he will place on building a strong and cohesive team.”
“I am very pleased to promote Daniel Attaway,” said Tracy K. Lee, deputy secretary for Community Supervision. “His hard work and leadership skills have prepared him well for this new management position.”
Attaway has 21 years of experience with NCDAC, serving in Guilford and Rockingham counties. He began his career in Guilford County as a probation officer in 2004. He was promoted to intermediate officer in 2006 and transferred to an intensive officer role in 2007. In 2008, he transferred to Rockingham County, where he began supervising a sex offender caseload.
In 2014, Daniel was promoted to chief probation/parole officer in Rockingham County. He was named Division III’s Chief Probation/Parole Officer of the Year in 2022. In 2023, Division III leadership selected him to participate in NCDAC’s Master Frontline Leadership Training.
Daniel is a graduate of Appalachian State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice with a minor in sociology.
